WA Legislation

The Gas Pipelines Access (Western Australia) Act 1998 was proclaimed on 27 January 1999 and enacted on 9 February 1999 with provisions that:

  • make the Gas Pipelines Access Law a law of Western Australia;
  • provide for regulations to be made;
  • establish the Western Australian Independent Gas Pipelines Access Regulator, Gas Disputes Arbitrator and the Gas Review Board;
  • make consequential amendments to certain acts which would otherwise be inconsistent or alter the effect, scope or operation of the Act;
  • provide for transition to the new regulatory arrangements; and
  • give legal effect in this State to the National Third Party Access Code for Natural Gas Pipeline Systems. (This regime is commonly referred to as the National Gas Access Code or simply the Code).
