This policy statement explains how the ERA collects, uses and discloses personal information. It applies equally to conventional and electronic information.

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, personal information is defined as "recorded information or an opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent, or can reasonably be ascertained, from the information or opinion".

Information we Collect

Personal information that is collected by the ERA is stored in electronic and/or physical form in a secure environment, and will not be disclosed to any other party or used for any purpose other than that for which it was collected, unless required by law.

Confidentiality of Public Submissions

In general, all public submissions from interested parties will be treated as in the public domain and placed on the ERA's web site. Where a party wishes to keep part or all of the contents of a submission confidential, this should be clearly indicated when the submission is sent.

The treatment of Confidential Information is explained in Public Consultation.

Email Management - Collection of Personal Information

Our Interested Parties List records email and/or physical address details to enable the ERA to communicate news and status reports on gas access regulation matters. Address details are maintained only to the extent necessary to fulfil this function. Click here to add your email address details to our Interested Parties List, or alternatively if you want to unsubscribe from this list.

Access to Personal Information

You can request us to provide access to the personal information that we hold about you. To request access, please send your request via the Contact Us web form.

Links to Third Party Web sites

The ERA web site has links to external third party web sites that may be of interest. These links include federal and state government agencies, major suppliers and users of infrastructure services, and other regulatory bodies.

External web sites should contain their own privacy statements and we recommend you review them when using these web sites. Third party web sites are not covered by the ERA's Privacy Policy and these sites are not subject to our privacy standards and procedures.

Site Visit Data

The ERA makes a record of your visit and logs the following:
  • the user's server address,
  • the user's top-level domain name (eg. .com, .gov, .au, .uk etc.),
  • the date and time of the visit to the site,
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded,
  • the previous site visited, and
  • the type of browser used.

The above information is used to create summary statistics which allow us to assess the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, discover what information is most and least used, determine technical design specifications and help us make our site more useful to visitors.

No attempt is made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect the service provider's logs.
